Disney Deception

Wait just one second here… You mean to tell me that the Walt Disney Corporation was designed to manipulate children into buying their products?! I’m sorry, but I have known for many years that at the core of Disney was pure evil. I don’t know anyone who didn’t think Lucifer had a hand in creating the “It’s a Small World” ride in Orlando. I’m not shocked at the use of psychologists to attract their target audience. As a matter of fact, I applaud them for it. They simply took the next logical step in marketing their product. Children are impulse buyers with almost unending funds (mommy and daddy). It was only a matter of time until someone decided to throw that book of ethics out of the window, so why are you surprised that it was the inventors of duck who struggles with Turrets? The truth is that it is unsettling, scary, and despicable, but let’s call it what it is from a pure marketing point of view— genius!

Mark Prensky Discussion

Mark Prensky has two categories for everyone in regard to the digital age. The distinctions are simple: "Digital Natives" and "Digital Immigrants". By age alone, i am characterized as a Native, but i do consider myself a slight hybrid. So, what does it mean to be a "Digital Prius?" Well, my definition means that even though i am a native, i have an octogenarian's basic understanding of computer technology. I use my cellphone and i check my e-mail, but that is where my expertise ends. I am not afraid to ask my 6 year old cousin to save me when my screen turns blue, but what does frighten me is that I can ask him how to do this on his new iPhone.

Personal Info

My name is Daniel Zachery Martin Williams… I guess my folks were a tad indecisive about what middle name to choose. I grew up in Worcester, MA and was born on January 11, 1990.

I have 27 brothers and 4 sisters. That was not a typo. I grew up with 25 foster brothers and 2 foster sisters in addition to my 2 biological brothers and my one biological sister. All, of them are older than I am by at least 3 years, and my little sister who just turned 16.

My house was obviously crazy, but my school and work were no different. I have been through 3 different school systems: Worcester, Uxbridge, and Bellingham.

As for work? Well, I have been a secretary, landscaper, PETsMART animal care specialist, Martial arts instructor, Disaster Medical EMT, and my personal favorite; I was a Zoo Keeper for 4 years at Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Not a bad life for a 19 year old. ^.^
And i would like to add that, even though i am not a teacher, I cannot wait to be one, and i am thrilled to have this opportunity to disscuss what is to be an educator with people who would normaly give me a detention slip.
